RACE DAY INFORMATION

ABOUT THE COURSE

Heads up! This isn’t your normal race. District 19 is an unsanctioned, road and trail run experience that will weave through all corners and quadrants of the District. While it is each runner’s responsibility to follow the designated course, there will be course markers along the way as well as volunteer course marshals and bike marshals to help guide you.

*Please obey all traffic laws, stay on the sidewalks, and be mindful of vehicles and community members*

To ensure safety, start times have been staggered – the 19-mile run will begin first (7:30 am), followed by the 19K (7:45 am), then the 5K (8:00 am). Within each wave/distance, runners will organize themselves according to their expected paces, correlating to DRC Wednesday Pace Groups:

  • Flyers (advanced; sub-7:30 min/mile pace);

  • Sub-flyers (advanced; 7:30-8:00 min/mile pace);

  • Movers (intermediate; 8:00-9:00 min/mile pace);

  • Groovers (moderate; 9:00-9:45 min/mile pace); and

  • Cruisers (beginner; all other paces).

Corrals will then be released in increments to avoid crowding throughout the race. Please follow volunteers’ instructions to line up in the proper place, based on your expected mile pace, and not ahead.

START LINE

TIME LIMIT

To ensure the safety of runners and volunteers, we will leave the course open for five hours after the start of the last wave of the 19 Mile race. Water stations and other volunteer resources will no longer be available after this cut-off time.

All participants must wear their assigned bib on a visible, outer layer while on the course. If you need safety pins for your bibs, please visit race day check-in.

BIBS

Please plan to watch the event from the race site and/or an on-course water station. Because roads will not be blocked off, additional traffic elsewhere along the course may add to the runners’ and the community’s inconvenience.

SPECTATORS

During the event, Lost & Found will be at the Information Tent. After the event, please email district19@districtrunningcollective.com to inquire about any missing items.
*All unclaimed items will be donated after 30 days*

LOST & FOUND

MEDICAL AREA

The medical area is for runners only; family members are not allowed. Overcrowding in the medical area prevents the medical staff from doing their job. For information on an athlete receiving medical treatment, please wait outside the medical area for updates.

SAFETY RULES

Absolutely no littering! Please be respectful of the city and the streets and trails we are using and throw away your trash. Failure to do so could jeopardize events in the future.

  1. If at any time you intend to drop out of the race, please do so by notifying a volunteer at a water station, course marshal, or bike marshal. Failure to follow these policies means somebody must come looking for you.

  2. On race day, ensure your bib is visible and attached to the outermost shirt/top or pant/bottom.

  3. Be aware of your surroundings. Headphones are allowed but we encourage runners to leave one earbud out to ensure you can hear and notice surrounding activity.

  4. Always follow traffic and pedestrian rules. The roads will NOT be blocked off for runners. Be considerate of other community members utilizing the same path and roads as you. Be careful of potholes and other obstructions on the course and at the start and finish.

  5. If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms on race day, you should not participate in the race, and instead should stay home and call your healthcare provider: Fever (subjective or 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit) or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea, or otherwise feeling unwell.

  6. MOST IMPORTANTLY…SMILE & ENJOY THE RUN!

COURSE

All Athletes will start at Sandlot Anacostia (633 Howard Rd SE, Washington, DC 20020)

Athletes are expected to follow the directions and instructions of all race officials, course marshals, and public authorities. No adjustments in times or results will be made for athletes who fail to follow the proper course for any reason whatsoever.
