Traci German is a mental health counselor in the District.  She currently serves in the adult education setting, supporting DC residents earn their high school diploma and workforce development.  Traci is also a wellness blogger, sharing information and inspiration throughout her journey of healthy eating, motherhood, DIY, and lessons learned along the way.

Traci is a wife (to Jason German) and mother to one (Bean, with Deuce on the way).  She’s been a part of the DRC family since 2015 and has enjoyed celebrating huge life milestones with this amazing community.

Being a mom and becoming one again is an experience no two women experience in the same way, yet all make it happen. Highlighting one of our own running mommas, Traci German, on her experience with her 3-year-old son, and soon-to-come daughter on her journey and how she has managed through all of the things of 2020.

This year has been all about balance not only for herself but for the family as well. Traci has been more intentional through her second pregnancy because she also has a toddler to think of.  “Spending time with Bean while he’s home and working to balance making sure I include him in our process instead of just doing.”  She not only has him help with the cooking but when she talks about “Deuce” he is included in the conversation.  It has been a learning process with him because he has big emotions and tantrums, making sure that she is consistent with discipline and just parenting as a whole.  “Jason and I are really processing his independence because I still can't believe we have a toddler and one on the way.” With her being more intentional about all things, she is especially intentional about movement, whether it be a walk with Bean around the neighborhood or doing some home projects, it is necessary because running is not an option right now.  Eating well is most important right now and that’s why it's been fun cooking with Bean too.  “When he helps with the cooking, he will eat all the food, which makes me so happy.”  When asked the question about support and her community, Traci misses the social in-person aspect that DRC provides but she cannot wait until she is ready to join again.

“DRC has always been a supportive community for our family and especially with Bean  I can't wait because our stroller gang is going to be strong and for people to see that DRC is a community that welcomes all runners; moms and dads alike with strollers is going to push others to get out there and see just how amazing our collective really is.”
